On average, an employer spends 20 seconds reviewing a resume. This is a very small window to make a positive impression.
The following tips, which are quite easy to implement, can be considered to improve your resume and get an interview:
- Develop a mutually-beneficial objective.
- Include bullet points to make your resume easy to read.
- Incorporate action words and quantify your accomplishments, whenever possible.
- Limit your resume to 1-2 pages.
- Be uniform and consistent in the use of italics, capital letters, bullets, boldface, and underlining.
- Target your resume to the job in which you are applying. Review the job description and revise accordingly.
- Avoid using terms that are specific to past jobs or companies that not everyone will understand.
- List your experiences (with recent experiences first) before your educational background, unless you are a recent college graduate.
