Have you ever tried ‘Googling’ something but still couldn’t find what you were looking for?  Here are some tips on how to use Google search, and the web in general, a bit more effectively so you can spend less time searching and more time reading.

If you’re looking for advice on a specific subject, narrow down your search by thinking of specific keywords.  The more specific you can be, the more relevant your results will be.  For example, if you were interested in finding online job boards in Vancouver, it would be more useful to Google job boards Vancouver rather than   job boards Canada.  The more specific you can be, the better your results will be.

Organizing your search terms will also lead to better results.   One way to do so is to use quotation marks around phrases.  For example, if you want to search for care bears (for some reason), you would turn up more relevant results by searching for ‘care bears’ than for the word ‘care’ and the word ‘bear.’ If you simply entered the words separately, you would be probably turn up websites about caring for bears, (care bear) instead of the cute cuddly ‘care bears’ that we all know and love.
